The Trip

(3) March 15th 1953- May 30th 1971 Johnny Coy Bastin

This is in honor of my brother Johnny although this never happened we did have alot of grand adventures ..There wasnt many places I couldnt go with him ..once was when he was going swimming at the Buffalo with his friends he told me I couldnt come because they would be going in their birthday suits I told mom that I knew he was lying because I knew he wouldnt get dressed up to go swimming ..and the other time is when he left on an early Sunday morning May 30th 1971 around 12:36

1970 a day in July
A Day at the Parthenon If you are not a Carole King,James Taylor or Joni Mitchell fan it will not make sense.
Tapersty helped me and Pam get thru the summer after he left….
Johnny ,Pam ,Terry , Poncho ,Jennifer and I decided to take one of our many adventures before school started back ,we didnt leave Benton and Perry Co much so this was a big adventure we were planning. It dont seem like it took long to plan something back in those days .Alot of our traveling was from Benton to Perry Co and from the courthouse to Westend Market to Eva then the gravel pits. Johnny just got a 65 Falcon convertible we would put the top down and enjoy our freedom
This one day we had 15.79 between us and after gas and a pack of Marlboros we decided we would go to go to the Parthenon in Nashville and then go get a few Krystal burgers, we could get 12 for a $1.00 on Charlotte Pike and a box of Krispey Cream donuts.. Yep we were on our way…….

The Parthenon in Nashvillie Tenn

The Parthenon was and is an awesome building to go through we all walked around for a while looking at the sites. Jennifer and I decided to go outside and enjoy the [BEAUTIFUL] day we had seen everything we had wanted too and we would meet the others at the steps later. As we were headed for the steps an older girl with her hair in a pony tail maybe in her early 20s was heading in the same direction ..we set down at about same time we smiled said our hellos I knew she wasn’t from Tenn as she had an accent. I ask her where she was from and she said she was from Manhatten …I ask her if it was close to Nashville and she laughed and said no that it was close to New York City and that she was here on business as she was a songwriter and was here with a couple of friends to work on a name for an album and thought they would take a few days off to sightsee . Her friends were stopping by Tooties and would then be on their way. Jennifer told her she had come to a great place for sightseeing. She asked us about ourselves I told her my name and age and Jennifer did the same and that she was from a little town named Camden and I was from Linden and was just hanging out with our friends.

Carole Kings ” TAPESTRY

She had shared about some songs she was writing and we shared some of our hobbies. I told her I had several hobbies that I liked macrame and doing [TAPESTRY] work that a lot of the women in my family did that I told her about the Tapestry poem where on one side it looks awful and turns it over it is beautiful just like life can be.
As we were sitting there all of a sudden there was a small earthquake we all jumped up surprised and I said whew [ I FEEL THE EARTH MOVE ] and after we got our bearings we set back down I moved down a step are two I didn’t like being by those big columns.I ask her if she had been inside and she said she had and that she wanted her friends to come on but that she thought it would be [TO LATE ] for them to see alot she ask me about my hair and she said she had curly hair too…I told her about hanging out on the Buffalo River and that my brother ..Johnny had a 125 Harley and I rode with him alot and I just let my hair go because it was to much to try to keep it fixxed because I was a [NATURAL WOMEN]..we all laughed because she knew I was just 16.., I told her one of my first taste of real freedom was riding with Johnny to Hohenwald to the Harley shop, she seemed to understand and asked where Hohenwald was and I told her she wouldnt know that it was [ WAY OVER YONDER]..and we laughed again.
We saw Johnny , Pam ,Terry and Poncho coming our way and knew that we would be [ HEADING HOME ] so as we were saying our goodbyes her friends were walking up laughing about someone named [SMACK WATER JACK.] Carole introduced us to her friends James and Joni…..James laughed and said to Carole I should have known [Youve Got A Friend ]..they were very interesting people and very kind to all of us . it was time for us to leave and I heard James ask Carole which way now and Joni laughed and said [WHERE YOU LEAD]..You could tell that James was ready to go I wondered if James was dating one of the ladies as I heard him say [WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW] but maybe he was teasing them,
In 1971 I saw on tv where the same lady won album of the year…for [Tapestry]..I knew there was something special about Carole,James and Joni . Now Im not saying at all that she got the name from me I am just telling you what we talked about….It was a pretty good album…I bought it 3 times….Sometimes memories seem just like yesterday and then at times they seem [SO FAR AWAY.] Belinda
