LIFE THRU the EYES of a 6 YEAR OLD
1960 Linden Tenn,
Mrs Theodosia Emmaline Taylor Rainey daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, business owner, she was born Aug 4,1868 and left this eathly home Feb 23,1962 at the age of 94 ..She married William Beauregard Rainey he was born Jan 23,1862 and he departed June 15th,1923 they had 10 children one who is my grandmother Mrs Belva Rainey Bastin
When I was with Grandmother Bastin we usually did our visiting and town business on Saturdays….Grandaddy was a barber and we would ride to town with him in a 56 Chevy pickup and while he worked we would go over and see Grandma Rainey at the Rainey Hotel for a spell as we visited her quite often .. I always remember Grandma Rainey in a wheel chair I never remember her saying much we would just set on the porch together while grandmama would do around …
the best of my remembering is that The Rainey hotel was 2 story L shaped it was built during the civil war time and located by the Lindy Theatre …we would just set together her in the wheelchair and me dangling my legs off of the porch ,she would watch me play and we just enjoyed each others company just sitting together outside. I can remember sometimes we would just look into each others eyes for a while as we set together I believe porch setting was very ,very important back then…and we did alot of it..
Once as we was sitting on the porch my dad who was a truck driver and who would be gone long periods of time came in and parked his truck in the front of the hotel he was hauling fruit from Florida and just stopped by for a liitte while …I had heard that Elvis had black hair and when dad stepped off of the truck I thought he was Elvis because his hair was black ..but it was better than Elvis it was my dad
… .Grandma never married again after Grandpa passed in 1923. she was born not long after the Civil War,lived thru 1st World War ,the Depression,WW2, raised 10 kids ,her husband passed early on and she ran a successful hotel business, a business lady of her time ,she got to finally vote , Grandmother Bastin always called her Mother and spoke loving of her..I would always kiss her on the cheek when we left and she would always hug me ….love dont have to have any words……my porch sitting friend and Great Grandma..
Great grandaughter Belinda Gail Bastin
